How it all began...

My Journey began as a sudden inspiration to revisit Korea for a second time, ( I went once for Ice climbing) and experience the country in a different perspective. Rolling about the floor as I booked my tickets, I decided I would try cycling through the country. Hence began what I would term as an amazing journey.

My initial considerations were :

1) How to bring my bicycle across or whether to even just buy/ rent a bike once I was there
2) Lodging - whether i was going to tent/ stay in motels
3) How much was I prepared to spend on this trip
4) Safety concerns

Breaking it down,

1) I decided to bring my own bike across over to Korea.

Looking at bikes for sale in Korea, it seemed that a good bike was somewhat pricey and I didn't want to be covering distance with a bike that could break down any minute. Checking online rates for shipping, just to bring my bike over would cost me about $600 SGD ( I could buy another ticket with that price lol) so another alternative would have to be chosen. I decided to make my bike my luggage...

Visiting my local bike shop, I asked for a cardboard box ( the kind that new bikes are shipped in) to be reserved for me, as well as the packaging styrofoam that comes with it. The next step was to top up the remaining weight with whatever personal belongings i wanted to bring over. Clothes, Tent, Spares went in here. After ardous packing and repacking, I made it to about 24 kg ( My luggage allowance is 20 kg) Thanks to the airline staff, I did not pay a cent to send the luggage across.

Just prior to sealing the box

This is my total luggage with the bag as hand-carry

The airlines was kind enough to waive off my 4 kg :)
